Blessing for today ~ Roses ~
We can complain because rose bushes have thorns, or rejoice because thorn bushes have roses. ~ Abraham Lincoln ~
One of our family’s fondest memories is that of roses in our yard. We had roses of various colors and sizes in the garden, and amazing bushes of miniature roses that bloomed prolifically. We learned at a young age how to pick roses without being stuck by the thorns. The analogy of roses and thorns is not lost on us. We learn in life to rejoice for the the blessings, as we rejoice for the beauty and symbolism of the rose. And we know that life has those sticky situations we would rather avoid, as we avoid the thorns as much as possible to enjoy the beauty of the rose. Don’t curse the thorn. It, too, has its purpose. Thorns protect the rose and teach us valuable lessons. Thorns keep us on our toes. Without a few thorn-pricks now and then, we would race head-strong into danger. Thorns slow us enough to make us cautious without halting our progression completely. With an enlightened perspective, we rejoice for both the rose and the thorn, with gratitude.
