You truly can’t imagine how strong and courageous you are until adversity challenges you to prevail, conquer and succeed against all odds. When you’ve got to step up or collapse, and you choose to stand, that;s when you know your true strength. That’s when you discover strength from something greater than you coming through you. When you admire someone courageous for being brave in circumstances you could not imagine, be grateful for their illustration of grace under fire. When you find yourself in a situation beyond imaginable abomination, remember the model of gallantry you were witness to. That bravery is within you, too, ready in reserve for when you need it most. Be grateful for courage where ever you see it, where ever you need it. Courage only comes from within. It’s there.

Everyone has family to be grateful for. Some families have common ancestors. Others are related in other ways. There are friends we call sisters. We see familiar faces that remind us of home. Some simply evoke a feeling of remembrance of a time that didn’t actually exist in this lifetime. These are our family; our family of souls, our family of spirit, our human family. And many of us extend our concept of family to our furry friends we call our “babies”. Think fondly of a member of your family with gratitude. Give them a moment of your heartfelt love and appreciation.

I‘m grateful for candle light. There is something magical about the hypnotic dancing light from a flickering candle. It’s been a fascination of mine for as far back as I can remember. The warm glow of the burning wick is calming and elating. It lifts the spirit and calls forth visions to the mind. If a room feels empty, candle light fills the space with the tranquil assemblage of Spirit. If a space feels cold, the candle glow warms the body and creates a refuge for the soul. If your inner spirit sinks, it can be enlivened, comforted and attended to by the subtle vibrational harmony of in the candles glimmer, glitter and afterglow.

I‘m grateful for French fries. Maybe that sounds awful for you; but for me it’s a delicious cultural cuisine filled with nostalgia and comfort. From the flavorful fries at the drive-in restaurant that had real car hops on roller skates to the thick soft juicy fries that Mom made, there is no food that I can identify with more clearly as a staple food of my upbringing than French fries. I don’t care if it’s skinny near flavorless frozen fries baked in the oven, French fries just seem to make a meal for me. Whatever it is that always makes you feel happy, enjoy it if you can, and find a near equal substitute if you can’t.

At a time when days are hectic, stressful and chaotic it is all too easy to get annoyed, grumpy, irritable, short-tempered and just down-right hateful. All those things, though, make us more miserable. I’m grateful for those moments of tenderness that bring an oasis of calm repose. A tender thought, expression or touch is all it takes to remind of who we really are, that we are all one humanity, one world, and that what we do and how we treat one another is important. Respect and adoration connect us with one another; with all living things. Humility and appreciation put us in touch with the vibration of peace and love that bring us in alignment with the all-life. Be the tenderness needed in the world.

The Gratitude Minute is a moment to align yourself with your highest intention for a day at your best. It only takes a minute. I‘m grateful for play. Even us old ladies love to play. Nothing feeds your inner child better than playtime with friends and children. I even enjoy playing all by myself. Always did. It’s a delight to watch my precious granddaughter play “make believe” with her dolls and stuffed animals. Makes me feel young again and appreciate her joy and creativity. It is a pleasure to observe the play of free spirit. That’s what the little ones are: free spirits playing out their fantasies while they can easily remember the freedom and spontaneity of the soul. Every one of us is a soul of beauty and charm. How wonderful it is to indulge our playful spirits with amusing merriment! Laugh, play, amuse yourself! There’s a joke in many daily situations. It’s OK if you’re the only one who gets the punch line. Many events in our lives play out for our amusement if we accept them with a gleeful heart. Life is joy!

Today I express my gratitude for plant whispers. Ever since I can remember I have felt a certain kinship with irises, especially deep purple irises. I’m sure you have something you feel a special connection to in nature. Plants just seem to have their own subtle melody, a vibration of peaceful bliss and vitality. Just being able to embrace a tree trunk or caress the velvety leaves of a flower calms the spirit and enlivens the soul. I love the wisdom of aged trees. They must be connected to everything on Earth. I am never more certain that I am where I need to be than when I rest upon a tree. I am grateful for the harmony of nature that we effortlessly blend in spirit with. Thank you, my plant kingdom folk, for your jubilance and benevolence.

I‘m grateful for Individuality. I can’t imagine the number of times I’ve said, “I know I’m not like most people”. I believe that we come into this world with the peculiar package of qwerks best suited to the life that lays before us. The qwerkiness in our lives is what’s needed to make it through and achieve our life purpose. It is our weirdness that sets us apart and guides us through life. So, yeah, I’m a weirdo. And, I’m grateful for my weirdness that nudges me in directions in my best interest.
